BEFORE REMODEL

The challenge of this Raleigh remodel was two active boys in need of play space. The
solution, send them to the garage? Absolutely! But first . . .
transform that very utilitarian garage into a warm inviting personal
space, both answering the needs of the homeowners as well as
complementing the existing home design. Faced with the challenge of
converting this 2-car garage, we crafted our overall design to create
a smooth transition from the adjoining kitchen area and to incorporate
matching features from the rest of the house. Great attention to
detail was given to the finish elements of the family room, most
prominently on the hardwood landing and stairs which we stained to
match and flow smoothly from the kitchen. We added a half-bath at the
top of the landing, conveniently accessible from either the kitchen or
playroom and matched the vanity cabinets, hardware, plumbing trim, and
light fixtures existing in the house. A strong design feature of the
room, the custom entertainment/toy cabinet was built and trimmed to
complement the oblong windows, and serves the very functional purpose
of housing books, entertainment appliances and toys. With an eye
toward “dressing up” the family room, we installed recessed lighting
and created a stylish entry with quad french doors and an exterior
overhang to add design and mute the effects of the sun. By designing a
tasteful but functional family living space, we created this room to
answer the homeowner’s very personal needs and to maximize re-sale
market appeal of the converted room. |
