This Raleigh home started out as a duplex. The homeowner was thinking
about removing the wall separating the units. As you can see, the remodeling
project evolved in to much more than that. The expansive ranch
design of this remodeled home incorporates making living easy for
people of all ability levels. The design also ensures the pleasure of
living in a familiar environment throughout one's maturing years, and
the ability to enjoy the familiar daily rituals and the special events
that enrich all our lives. From the moment you see this house from
the curb you realize that the grade slopes have been minimized to make
the zero step street-side entrance. There is a small covered porch and
ipe deck on the front side of the home. The house has low maintenance
Hardie plank on the outside with energy efficient Andersen Low E
windows throughout. The ThermaTru front entry door adds additional
energy efficiency and the sidelights allow one to identify callers
before answering the door. The HVAC units are gas furnaces with 13
seer air conditioners for energy efficiency. These units are zoned in
to two separate zones one upstairs and the other downstairs. At the
back of the home there is an oversized deck/carport with Dryspace
installed on the underside providing cover from the elements while
unloading passengers or groceries. We constructed a custom car turn
pad by building a masonry retaining wall and backfilling this area
with stone then we paved it with concrete and built a 3 foot security
wall on top. This provides ease in accessing the busy street in front
of the home. The hallway leading from the back door to the 2 stop
elevator with hardwood flooring, through the future care givers
residence, is an ample 5 feet wide. This makes getting groceries up to
the main kitchen a breeze. CONTINUE >>> |
