BEFORE REMODEL

After completing Phase I for Sue we knew she would be a great asset for Phase II. The only difficulty was a reversal of remodeling phases, installing the chair glide first so she could see the project as it progressed and with forethought envision how she would utilize the space. This assisted us ensuring it would meet her needs for many years to come.

Some of this Raleigh remodeling project would conform to the universal guidelines but some would be more personalized to the specific needs of the homeowner. Since she was able to monitor the progress, changes could be made to accommodate individual needs during construction.

Customizing an unusable space and making it become a sanctuary is a rewarding experience for a remodeler. This space is now one of the most used places in the house. Sue says she will probably never use the shower on the first floor again. The customized curbless shower has a transfer bench seat and grab bars strategically located by the homeowner. The toilet is set at a comfort level. The sink is wall mounted with a tilting mirror above. The cabinets in the breakfast kitchen are 32 inches off the floor with a black counter top that is 30 inches to make it more accessible. The Pozzi window is opened and closed by using a crank. The Velux skylights are remote controlled. The outlets are set 18 inches above the floor. Wall switches are set at 42 inches above the floor. The pre-finished hardwood floors made the area accessible.
