These Raleigh homeowners originally had an idea to install a glass roof
over their existing brick patio to support their smilex vine. After
further discussion we explained that this may not meet everything on
their wish list. We ended up building a sunroom addition. This
addition contains 12 Velux skylights in the 20' roof. The skylights
would provide abundant sunlight for curling up with a good book in an
elegantly appointed sunroom. The state of the art Velux remote
controlled light blocking shades could be closed so the sunroom could
become a TV/media room all rolled into one. During preliminary
discussions, the homeowners were concerned about energy efficiency but
after careful research they decided that their fears were unfounded.
This room is heated and cooled by a Samsung Quietside heat pump so
this allows the room to be isolated from the rest of the house. The
energy efficient Velux skylights, Andersen windows, doors and transoms
allow the homeowners to enjoy this tranquil escape any time of the
year. The new addition blends seamlessly with the pre-existing
house. We matched the heart pine flooring so it draws your eye from
the pre-existing living area into the new sunroom addition. These
homeowners can now gaze at their prized rose collection or just look
up and enjoy stargazing through the skylights overhead.
